Hugh Freeze Contract

Hugh Freeze Signs a Lucrative Contract with Liberty

New Eight-Year Deal Puts Coach Among Highest-Paid in Group of Five

Deal Highlights:

Liberty University and head coach Hugh Freeze have inked a new eight-year contract that will elevate Freeze's compensation to the upper echelons of the Group of Five conferences. The agreement reportedly includes an average annual salary of over $4 million, solidifying Freeze's status as one of the highest-paid coaches in the Group of Five.

Freeze's previous contract with Liberty was a six-year deal signed in 2019. The new contract extends his tenure at the school through the 2030 season. It is a testament to Freeze's success at rebuilding the Flames football program, which had struggled in the years leading up to his arrival.

Prior to joining Liberty, Freeze was the head coach at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) from 2012 to 2016. He led the Rebels to a pair of top-10 finishes in the final Associated Press poll and was named the Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year in 2015.

Freeze's tenure at Liberty has been equally impressive. He has led the Flames to three bowl appearances in four seasons, including a victory in the 2020 Cure Bowl. In 2022, Liberty finished with a 9-5 record, their best mark since joining the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in 2018.

The new contract demonstrates Liberty's commitment to Freeze and his vision for the future of the football program. It also reflects the growing stature of the Group of Five conferences, which have produced several high-profile coaches and successful teams in recent years.
